Rhinoplasty
A nose that doesn’t match your face is no way to go through life. With some subtle changes, the results can be dramatic.
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that revises the shape and size of your nose and modifies it for a more proportional fit to the rest of your face. Also known as a nose job, this procedure also corrects the function of your nose by amending breathing problems caused by birth defects, injury, or trauma.
Most patients I see for rhinoplasty are people who feel self-conscious about their nose, whether it is too large, misshapen, or wide. Perhaps there has always been a “bump” where your nose should be smooth. Either way, you’re dissatisfied with the shape or proportion of their nose. I can help improve the way you look at yourself and how others see you. Through rhinoplasty, I can reshape your nose and increase your self-confidence.
My life’s purpose is to help my patients feel better about themselves; body image and self-esteem are inextricably linked. By improving the shape and proportion of your nose, I will boost the way you feel about the way you look and restore your self-confidence.
Rhinoplasty Method
The rhinoplasty procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. My goal is to conceal the incisions inside your nose or along its natural creases so there is little to no noticeable evidence of surgery.
It’s rewarding to see how thrilled my patients are after their procedure and their new attractive look and more balanced face. It’s fascinating how dramatically rhinoplasty improves appearance and self-esteem with just one facial feature. I take extreme pride in all of my work so it is satisfying when I can help change the lives of my patients.
It’s more than performing a surgery; it’s about caring. Together, we will go over your customized procedure and decide what is best for you, focusing on exactly what bothers you and how we will go about fixing it.
Types of Rhinoplasty
There are two types of rhinoplasty: open and closed.
For an open rhinoplasty, I make a small external incision on the underside of the nose that becomes less visible over time. The recovery is longer for an open rhinoplasty, but it allows me to shape more of the nose on the inside and outside.
For a closed rhinoplasty, an incision is made on the inside of the nose that leaves no scar. Without an incision on the skin, healing occurs faster with a closed rhinoplasty. I have a deep understanding of minimally invasive rhinoplasty techniques. But there are limits to what can be achieved with the closed approach. If all that bothers you is a small bump, this can be shaved down with a closed rhinoplasty, no external scars, and a quicker recovery (within a few days).
Reasons for a Rhinoplasty
Getting a rhinoplasty can bring you many benefits that will alter your life for the better.
Am I a candidate for a rhinoplasty?
If you are in good physical health, a non-smoker, and have realistic expectations, you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. A teenager or young adult should wait until facial growth is complete because it can impact the function and appearance of the nose. This happens around 17-18 years of age.
What are the results of rhinoplasty?
The results of your rhinoplasty should be long-lasting and essentially permanent. Your nose will gradually change as the swelling subsides over the first few weeks to months. You will see adjustments to your nasal contour as it becomes more refined over the first year.
Recovery
I am passionate about my work, which is why I am quite involved in your recovery. I make myself accessible so you have all the information you need for an effective and speedy recovery. My nurse and I provide recovery ointments, scar gels, and other items to improve your results. To me, proper recovery is as crucial as the procedure itself. Your rhinoplasty recovery should take about a week. Every once in a while, steroid injections can help in reducing swelling. These can be performed around 2-3 months #postOPP

Here are some tips to keep in mind during your recovery:
- You will likely feel some discomfort for a few days after your procedure
- Bruising and swelling can be expected, especially around your eyes, for up to two weeks
- You may need to wear a nasal splint for the first week
- Avoid strenuous activity for three to six weeks
- Pain medication can be prescribed to give you relief from discomfort
- Keep your head elevated in bed to keep bleeding to a minimum for at least the first 48 hours; you will likely heal better if you do it for the first couple of weeks.
- To minimize swelling, ice can be used for 15 minutes every hour for the first two days
- Clean your incisions two to four times a day for the first week
- Clean your nose on the inside with saline spray to reduce crusting
- Breathing through your nose will be difficult for the first two weeks
- Headaches may occur because of the central location of your nose
- Avoid blood thinners including ibuprofen
- Stay out of the sun for the first six months
- No strenuous activities for the first two weeks after your procedure, including bending over and lifting heavy objects
"Since before I can remember, I have been self-conscious about my nose and profile."
"After doing my homework for 2+ years, I came across Dr. Oppenheimer and his team located in Orlando, Florida. I had 2 pre-op appointments in which he was available to address fears and concerns that come along with cosmetic surgery. He was extremely patient with every question, and sensitive to the insecurities I had towards nose. I am 11 days post-op from my surgery, and I am so incredibly happy with my results. I totally cried when he took my splint off, and have done so more than once since then. I am so thankful I chose to trust Dr. O, and I would do it all over again tomorrow. Thank you so much for my pretty little nose!"
