“You look tired.” No one wants to hear that phrase.
What Are Under-Eye Fillers?
Under-eye filler—or tear trough filler—is a cosmetic procedure that uses hyaluronic acid to treat hollowness and dark shadowing under the eyes. Oftentimes, patients complain about tired-looking eyes; some may have concerns with puffy bags, while others feel their tear troughs look hollow. A hollow tear trough can cause shadows that mirror dark circles. Under-eye fillers can help with a tired or sunken appearance and deep indentations. Other potential causes for tired-appearing eyes include genetic predisposition, allergies causing swelling in the area, hyperpigmentation, and very thin skin, which can reveal a bluish tinge.
Generally, tear trough hollowing coincides with volume loss in the mid-face. When evaluating cheeks and under-eyes, I treat them as a whole because the cheek supports the tear trough. My goal is to create a smooth transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek. This will also improve the proportions of the mid-face and give a brighter, more youthful, and rested appearance. In my experience, treating these two areas together gives the most natural result.
