Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty

Don’t look tired when you’re not tired. Consider eyelid surgery to get a rested look.

As one of the most popular plastic surgeries, blepharoplasty can improve the contour of your eyelids and treat loose skin around the eyes that have formed due to aging, which contribute to a tired look.

Obviously, less is more when it comes to plastic surgery. Sometimes under eye hollows and “bags” can be treated with HA fillers like Juvederm and Belotero. If you’re looking for a non-surgical solution with almost no downtime, consider under eye or tear trough fillers instead.

The face is often one of the first areas to lose skin structure as we get older—aided by sun exposure, stress, and the repetition of facial expressions over the years. When this occurs, the eyelids are prone to experience sagging. Additionally, under-eye bags may form, causing a stressed or worn look.

Blepharoplasty surgery targets both the upper and lower eyelids to rejuvenate your eyes. I can remove excess skin or fat around the eyes and reposition the eyelids to reduce drooping. Thanks to innovations in blepharoplasty surgery, Orlando patients can revitalize their expression with less downtime than ever before.

Blepharoplasty Method
Upper and lower blepharoplasty surgery can either be performed in unison or separately, depending on your particular needs. Eyelid surgery patients can undergo their procedures at our outpatient surgical facility. Safe. Private. State-of-the-art.

During an upper blepharoplasty, incisions are made in the natural creases of your upper lids. I will remove any excess skin that may be contributing to eyelid sagging as well as small amounts of excess fat above the lids, if necessary. The eyelids can also be slightly repositioned to restore youthful contours to your eyes during upper eyelid surgery.

Lower blepharoplasty incisions are placed on the inside portion of your lower eyelids in most cases. Any excess fat buildup can be excised to reduce puffiness. Excess skin may need to be removed or repositioned when reducing under-eye bags. A laser resurfacing procedure or chemical peel may be performed instead of skin removal, depending on our evaluation. This can make the under eye skin pink for several weeks.

Either way, bruising and swelling (black eyes) is typical and will last a few weeks. You may want to be out of the public eye, so to speak, for that time period. After that, you’ll just look rested. Most people will want to know where you went on vacation to get so refreshed! You don’t have to tell the truth; we certainly won’t tell.

Rhinoplasty, facelift surgery, cheek lift, and other facial rejuvenation procedures can be performed with blepharoplasty surgery to enhance your facial appearance.

I am always direct with my patients about the specific benefits and compromises for surgery. During our consultation, we will go over what a blepharoplasty procedure can do for you. Also, I will share with you how I take extreme pride in how I perform my surgeries. I use every technique possible to minimize scarring and a delicate approach with sutures to create the best long-term incision healing. Gentleness counts.

I take every step and do what needs to get done for a successful surgery and the best possible outcome. It’s about working together to come up with a detailed plan to meet your needs.

Top 10 Reasons for a Blepharoplasty
Here are some of the benefits of getting a blepharoplasty:

1.   Combination: blepharoplasty can be combined with a facelift or a brow lift
2.   Decrease fine lines: minimizes lines around the outer and lower corners of the eyes
3.   Firmness: firms and tightens inelastic skin and lax muscles
4.   Improved vision: lifts excess skin and corrects vision impairment for a full field of vision
5.   Minimal scarring: incisions in the crease of the upper eyelid and inside of the eyelid or in the lash line for the lower eyelid
6.   No more puffiness: gets rid of tired-looking eyes
7.   Short recovery: most patients return to work in a week or so
8.   Two: you can get both upper and lower blepharoplasty done at the same time
9.   Wrinkles: handles wrinkling around your eyes by smoothing crow’s feet and other wrinkles
10. Youthful appearance: lifts your droopy eyelids so your eyes will appear more open

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a candidate for a blepharoplasty?
If you are in good physical health and have realistic expectations of what a blepharoplasty procedure can do for you, you are a good candidate to improve the appearance of your upper and lower eyelids.

If your bigger issue is simply under eye hollows and “bags,” then you may be better suited for tear trough augmentation, where HA filler is injected under the eyes with a thin tube. This allows for a procedure to be performed with no recovery required and no downtime.

What are the risks with a blepharoplasty?
I take my role as your surgeon very seriously and I am uncompromising when it comes to your safety. I take every possible precaution to minimize risk. Blepharoplasty is a safe procedure but some of the risks can include a reaction to anesthesia, bleeding, infection, irritated eyes, scarring, skin discoloration, small white pimples around the eyes, swelling, and problems with vision.

Recovery
I make sure to be involved with all aspects of your recovery, including providing the necessary aftercare ingredients to improve your results. I treat every recovery as important as the procedure itself, including all recovery creams, ointments and scar gels. I like to try and control every aspect of your recovery from anesthesia to postoperative care, right here in my own surgery center.

Recovery times vary from patient to patient and you should expect your eyes to be bruised, red and to tire easily for the first 2-3 weeks after your surgery.

During your recovery:

  • Will likely experience some discomfort around your eyes for a few days
  • May experience blurred vision and sight impairments after your procedure
  • Swelling usually takes two or three weeks to subside
  • Full healing can take up to six months
  • May need to wear some gauze or protective bandages over your eyes for a few days
  • Will need to avoid rubbing your eyes
  • Can use ice compresses for the first week to help decrease the swelling
  • Limit your physical activity
  • Elevate your head while sleeping
  • Limit reading or watching television for an extended period of time
  • Stitches are usually removed or become fully dissolved after a week after your procedure
  • Do not participate in any strenuous exercise for at least a couple of weeks

Did you know that we have a nurse available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you have any questions or concerns during your healing process? It is our goal to make your recovery as comfortable as possible, please do not hesitate to contact us for any reason.
