Yes, please. Lasts for a year? You had me at “confidence.” That’s how women feel about lip injections with fillers.
Almost every woman wants a touch more fullness to their lips. Sometimes even more than a touch. One thing is certain: NO one wants a duck lip or fish lip appearance after fillers. Whether you're looking for Kylie lips or a subtle pout, my focus is on a natural look to the lips after lip injections.
Lip fillers use injectable fillers to treat lips that are naturally thin or have progressively thinned out over the years. The result is fuller and plumper lips. Lip injections can also reshape lips that are disproportionate and sculpt your lips for a natural shape with a cute lip pout.
There are a variety of injectable lip fillers available such as Restylane and Juvederm, each with different formulations from Restylane Defyne and Silk to Juvederm Volbella and Vollure. These injections contain hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in your body, that boosts and restores volume in your lips.
Hyaluronic acid (aka Juvederm and Restylane) is a natural substance already found in the human body, so lip fillers are a safe way to get plump lips that last. Using a thin tube called a cannula, hyaluronic acid (HA) filler is injected into the lips to smooth out fine lines and to add volume to the lip pout. Injecting in an even way with no needles avoids any “lumpy bumpy” issues. An attention to proportions allows me to create a natural (or super-natural Kylie) shape without causing duck lips, or anything unnatural or uneven.
Lip injections usually only takes about five minutes. The targeted area is cleaned and a topical numbing cream is applied before your procedure.
A small amount of local anesthesia is used at the corners of the mouth. I then use a blunt metal straw (cannula) to evenly and smoothly inject the filler. In this way, there are no needle pokes, and very little pain. Most importantly, there is no bruising and no risk of intravascular (inside of an artery) injections, the biggest risk of fillers. The cannula allows me to precisely place the fillers in a smooth fashion. We then apply our lip Gloss and an ice pack. Expect a little swelling the first day or so after, but essentially zero bruising.
For extra plumpness, we recommend our Lip BOMB to add just a bit more volume by increasing blood flow to the mucosa. Our Gloss is always provided after lip fillers to keep your lips shiny and smooth, reducing chapped and dry lips.
Even with something as straightforward as lip injections, I take the time to do it right. Me and my nurse practitioner - your choice - will sit down with you to understand your aesthetic goals and what you hope to achieve.
Do lip injections hurt?
I am a very gentle doctor and I really don’t like hurting people! So everything I do with lip fillers is aimed at making this as comfortable as possible. We start with a topical numbing cream that stays on for about 20 minutes. After cleaning (and re-cleaning) your lips, we infiltrate a small amount of local anesthesia at the corners of the mouth. Then I make small tunnels with a very thin cannula (tube) to shape and contour the lips. The procedure takes about five minutes with my patients saying they feel about 1 to 2 out of 10 on a pain level. The lip fillers also have lidocaine in them so the lips get more numb as we go.
How long do lip injections last?
Depending on your metabolism, lip fillers can last up to a year. Restylane and Juvederm are made of naturally occurring hyaluronan, a soft and spongy substance found throughout your body. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in your lips. Just like breast augmentation, lip fillers can be anything YOU want them to be.
For longer lasting lips, we may decide to use a thicker and stronger filler. I like to balance softness with longevity: the softest fillers would go away too quickly, but the firmest fillers would be too firm. The goal is just right. Like Goldilocks, the balance of softness with a lasting result.
Am I a candidate for lip fillers?
If you are looking to add volume to your lips and are in good physical health, you are a good candidate for lip fillers. Any woman with thin or uneven lips can benefit from lip injections.
Can you treat wrinkles?
Yes, a lip injections can treat wrinkles that have formed around your mouth. Over the years, your lips begin to wrinkle with volume loss, sun damage, and muscular action. This can cause lipstick “bleeding” and require women to over-line their lips. Lip injections eliminate these problems.
What are the risks of lip injections?
A lip injection treatment is safe and any side effects are temporary, a few days at most. Swelling is actually quite minimal with my approach. Some of the side effects can include bleeding, bruising, reactivation of cold sores, redness, swelling, and tenderness. Any small bumps can be gently massaged to smooth out, but they are very (very) rare. I want you to be happy. If you’re not happy, I’m not happy. Just come back and we can fix anything you want!
Any downtime with lip injections?
There is little to no downtime and you go home immediately after your treatment. Ice is key, and we provide you with ice packs in the clinic to take with you.
I take every safety precaution, but truth be told using the cannula takes away the greatest risk of lip fillers otherwise injected with needles: injecting lip fillers into an artery or vein. This is known as intravascular injection.Schedule a Consultation Today
There’s only one brief period of tenderness with lip injections when the local anesthesia is used at the corners of the mouth. After that the process is quite easy because there are no needle pokes!
Regardless of what treatment you decide to have, my goal is to provide a positive and warm environment. The result will be to give you more beautiful, fuller lips without an artificial or unnatural look. No bruising and minimal swelling!
One vial for natural, two vials for augmented. In general, we start with one vial of lip filler and revisit the results two weeks later. If you want more voluptuous lips at that point, we can add more! It's completely your call. Also, by adding more filler to the upper lip, a more augmented look can be achieved even with a single vial of filler.
Here are some of the best reasons why many women get a lip injections:
Rest, Ice and Gloss are the best ways to get the easiest and smoothest recovery from your lip fillers. It is very uncommon to have any bruising, but swelling can last for about 3 days afterwards. Rest, Ice, Gloss.
