Otoplasty Orlando

Dr. Oppenheimer — @RealdrOPP

A prominent ear can cause emotional strain from being teased.

While I would love to operate on the bully, the ear is the next best option. I can help you regain self-esteem by treating ears that appear large or elongated. There is no need to live with an undesirable ear shape and feeling self-conscious about your ears. I can help make a difference by providing the most natural and attractive results.

If you have misshapen or protruding ears, you are definitely a good candidate for otoplasty. Regardless of age, you should be in good physical health with a stable weight. Starting at age 15 or so, children can consider getting an ear surgery in my office as long as they do not have any illnesses or ear infections. At the pediatric hospital, otoplasty can be performed as young as 6 years of age.

What is an Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects the shape and position of the ear, treating misshapen and prominent ears by “pinning” them backwards. By creating a more natural shape, I can bring balance to the ears, and make them less obvious and less noticeable.

Also known as ear surgery, otoplasty is a procedure that can help men, women and even children who are unhappy with the shape and size of their ears. If someone feels self-conscious about their ears because of protrusion, I can correct the problem.

Otoplasty can be a perfect option for:

  • Anyone with stretched or torn ear piercings
  • A person with long, thinned or wrinkled earlobes
  • Someone with large ears
  • Someone with misshapen or prominent ears
  • Anyone unhappy with the shape and proportion of their ears
  • A person who has protruding ears on one or both sides

Otoplasty Method

For an otoplasty, I make a small incision in the crease behind the ear to sculpt and reshape the ear cartilage on the inside. There are no visible scars on the front surface of the ear. Everything is done from the ear crease on the backside of the ear. This makes it very hard to tell if you’ve had ear surgery. Your hairdresser may be the only one who knows.

My goal with this procedure is to make your ears less prominent and give you a more normal appearance. With protruding or deformed ears, the key is to bring them closer to your head. It’s satisfying to make a difference and return much-deserved self-esteem after performing ear surgery. But most of all, your trust in the first place keeps me doing my best.

I take a delicate approach and ensure all of my patients get most delicate surgery. The goal is to make your ears organically fit your profile while reducing them as a source of attention.

My Approach

You may be self-conscious about your ears and you are not alone. Many are self-conscious about their ears, often from a young age, because their ears protrude too much or droop too low. You may wear hats or adopt a different hairstyle to hide your ears and avoid unwanted attention to them.

As an experienced plastic surgeon, I specialize in aesthetic procedures of the face and body and can change the shape and proportion of the ears. By performing otoplasty, I’m creating a more symmetrical and subtle appearance, correcting birth differences. This will have a dramatic impact on your appearance and self-confidence.

I have a passion for helping others. I’ll take all the necessary time to talk with you before your procedure and continue to be a part of your care afterward in your recovery. I am a board-certified plastic surgeon who is meticulous about every detail. But I am more than just a surgeon. I spend time getting to know my patients and make sure they feel comfortable during their visits. The goal is to provide you with the best otoplasty surgery experience Orlando has to offer.

Recovery

I care about all of my patients and follow through surgery into the recovery phase. I believe proper recovery is important for safety and aesthetic reasons. I want your recovery to go as smoothly and to be as painless as possible.

Here are some other tips for your recovery:

  • You may feel some discomfort for a few days; however, otoplasty is not much of an invasive procedure and some patients don’t feel much pain
  • For the first 24 hours, make sure to get plenty of rest and stay well hydrated
  • You will wear a mild compression dressing around the ears to help with the swelling
  • Avoid sleeping on your side to keep pressure off your ears
  • Most patients return to work in a week, depending on the nature of their work
  • Bruising and swelling can last 2 weeks
  • Give yourself two weeks before resuming strenuous activities
  • Avoid swimming and any contact sports for a few months
  • After one or two weeks, your ears shouldn’t be noticeably swollen to other people
